Today was Apple’s “Let’s Rock” event. They announced three items which are updated versions of iPod nano, iPod Touch, & iTunes (now at version 8.0).

The new iPod nano is now 3.6in x 1.5in that features a 2in (diagonal) liquid crystal display with blue-white LED backlight. You can shake to shuffle your music. Just give iPod nano a shake and it shuffles to a different song in your music library. It’s available in a variety of colors & comes in two sizes: 8GB / 16GB priced at $149 & $199 respectively.

The new iPod Touch is thinner at 0.33in & is now housed in stainless steel. It also has a built-in speaker and volume controls on the side. It comes in three sizes: 8GB / 16GB / 32GB priced at $229, $299, & $399 respectively.

The iPod classic comes in one size now, 120GB for $249.

iTunes 8 released today and includes several changes. The first thing I noticed when opening iTunes 8 were the store arrows were back next to my songs when highlighted. In previous versions, these store arrows could be turned off, but I could not find an option within iTunes 8. I activated the new Genius feature which reminded me of Pandora.

Play a song, click the Genius button, and iTunes creates a playlist of other songs from your library that go great together. Genius playlists help you discover songs in your library you never knew you had.” iTunes 8 also features a new visualizer which renders in a 3D-scape of spheres, ribbons, and lights that pulsate to the beat and tempo of the song you’re playing.

The 2.1 software update will be available Friday or today

UPDATE 6:19PM: I installed the 2.1 software update on my iPod Touch without problems.
