The Biosphere and Oracle

The biosphere is very interesting. Y’all know about the bioshere, right? If not, read about the biosphere over here.

What about another biosphere called Biosphere 2? Have you heard of it? The University of Arizona states that Biosphere 2 is where science lives.

And to think that Biosphere 2 is located right by Oracle, not far from my winter home in Mesa. Maybe, I should take a trip and pay a visit there. I cannot believe that I have not already done so.

Las Vegas, Lake Havasu City, London Bridge

Driving back from Las Vegas last week, Judy and I took a side trip to Lake Havasu City to see the London Bridge. We even drove across it a couple times before we parked the car to wander around the visitor information center.

Former ASU Player Greg Bordes, Sliders, Chompies, and Me

The Chompies Slider Challenge is on. Greg Bordes tried the Slider Challenge. Bordes lost the Challenge. Now it is my turn today, as my wife Judy wrote yesterday.

Create TV

Being the creative person I am (choke, choke, snicker, snicker), I have really come to enjoy the digital television channel Create that has great programming for cooking, arts and crafts, gardening, home improvement, and travel.

If this type of television programming stirs your interest, check out the website for Create TV.

Hamlet or hamlet

There is Hamlet, and there is a hamlet.

If you would like to read Hamlet, just click on the preceding embedded link in this sentence.

Defiance and the Bielski Brothers

There is an interesting movie, Defiance that has stirred a bit of controversy.

The movie, based on the real life events of Jewish fighters in Belarus and Poland during World War II and upon the book, Defiance: The Bielski Partisans, is about The Bielski Brothers and the Bielski partisans.

Read the embedded links. You just may wish to read the book and/or watch the movie.

Why, A Boat.

I think I might buy a boat, but not just any boat. Why, you might ask; to which I respond “Exactly” – you are absolutely correct. Why is the boat I want.

Although, I’ll probably have to convince Gizmodo to let me have the Why.

Hillbilly Alert. Run for the hills.

The other day, I had a conversation with someone about the use of the word “hillbilly” and its descriptive connotation.

Two lines of thought were involved in the conversation. One was that the term was negative stereotyping persons who live in the hills of rural America. The other was that the term applied to a specific type of people who reside in the hills of rural America who have their own sub-culture as opposed to being inclusive of all hill-dwellers.

What do you think?

Oh, for sake of reference on this topic, I suggest you read:
Hillbilly from Wikipedia
Hillbilly from the Urban Dictionary

It has been said that a picture is worth a thousand words.

Crossing the Desert; A Cross in the Desert

It can be extremely difficult to cross the desert. Some people (quite a few actually) have died in their attempts to cross the various deserts of the world.

In a different light, there are crosses that have been erected to memorialize persons who have died.

There is a cross in the desert that has caused some debate in United States constitutional law and in political correctness: it also demonstrates the exisience of religous intolerance by way of not understanding or respecting the beliefs of religions other than Christianity. The cross of which I reference is in the Mojave Desert.

Snopes has checked out all the rumors and has found them to be true about the Mojave Cross.

The Telegraph of the United Kingdom has the story Mojave Cross memorial to WWI dead ‘violates first amendment‘ abot the cross.

You might want to read the CNN story Justices weigh constitutionality of war memorial cross.

And, from the web site of National Public Radio you may listen to as well as read the story High Court Weighs Legality Of Memorial Cross.

Envision Utah

Now, here is something from which all the States in the USA could learn.

From this embedded link of this web site I have copied and pasted the following:

Visit and read the mission statement of Envision Utah; and if you wish, and I strongly encourage you to do so, visit the Envision Utah home page.

Another Tombstone

Thanks to the comment by Tim Higgins in the previous Roland’s Ramblings Tombstone posting, I now feel like I have a special kind of pie in my face.

Take a look at this Tombstone; and then, read a bit of history about the pie thrown by Tim.

Tombstone, Epitaph

I am going on another trip to Tombstone. It’s been a few years since my last trip; at that time, my sidekick on the trip to Tombstone was a friend of mine. This time, my wife, Judy, will be my sidekick.

I know you cannot go with me, but be my guest and feel free to take a cybertrip to Tombstone by clicking on the embedded links that follow.

I remember last time I went to Tombstone, I visited the building housing the office and museum of The Tombstone Epitaph. It was so interesdting that I think I’ll visit it again.

Adam, Or Adam

Many people who know me also know I have a son named Adam. He is truly a fantastic man and a decent human being of whom I am very proud.

The name Adam is of Hebrew origin. Over this-away, you may read Insights Into The Hebrew Language: The Meaning Of Adam.

I wonder if I should continue with Adam Or Adam. Gotchya! Or Adam is Hebrew for “light of humanity.”

There is a Humanistic Judaism congregation named Or Adam in Phoenix, Arizona. Click on over to check out the Or Adam website.

Come to think of it, I wonder how many people have heard of Humanistic Judaism.

Interfaith Marriage

I recently read an article about interfaith marriage by Lois Leveen that appeared in a weekly newspaper that I thought was pretty interesting. You may read it online, if you wish; just click over to

Browning Masonic Community in Ohio

I am proud to be a Freemason and to be associated with the Grand Lodge of Ohio. As a Freemason over the age of 55, I am especially appreciative of the wonderful Masonic support network.

Older Freemasons in Ohio have plenty of resources available to them as may be learned at the website of the Ohio Masonic Home.

For those Masons in the greater Toledo area of Northwest Ohio, there is the beautiful Browning Masonic Community located in Waterville, Ohio that is a residential community filling many needs and providing many services.
