The Pirate Bay
Feb 4th
A Danish court ruled in favor of the IFPI, and ordered the Danish ISP “Tele2″ (DMT2-Tele2) to block all access to the popular BitTorrent tracker. The Pirate Bay, currently ranked 28th in the list of most visited sites in Denmark, is working on countermeasures.
The court case was initiated by the IFPI – the infamous anti-piracy organization that represents the recording industry – and plans to force other ISPs to do the same. However, The Pirate Bay is determined to fight back, as usual. Read more…

Steal this Film II
Dec 30th
Steal This Film II is a film series documenting the movement against intellectual property. It’s about 45 minutes long and I have to say it was pretty interesting.
These are strange times indeed. While they continue to command so much attention in the mainstream media, the ‘battles’ between old and new modes of distribution, between the pirate and the institution of copyright, seem to many of us already lost and won. We know who the victors are. Why then say any more?
Because waves of repression continue to come: lawsuits are still levied against innocent people; arrests are still made on flimsy pretexts, in order to terrify and confuse; harsh laws are still enacted against filesharing, taking their place in the gradual erosion of our privacy and the bolstering of the surveillance state. All of this is intended to destroy or delay inexorable changes in what it means to create and exchange our creations. If STEAL THIS FILM II proves at all useful in bringing new people into the leagues of those now prepared to think ‘after intellectual property’, think creatively about the future of distribution, production and creativity, we have achieved our main goal.

Encrypting BitTorrent Traffic
Apr 16th
I’ve always been a fan of BitTorrent for legitimate material. I stopped using it due to throttling. Now I can start downloading my favorite IPTV (Systm, From the Shadows, etc…) shows and LiveCD’s again. Found an article via Digg that explains how to encrypt your torrent streams. Encrypting your torrents will prevent throttling ISP’s from shaping your traffic. Here is a link to TorrentFreak for the full how-to for the various torrent software including the popular Azureus.
The RC4 encryption obfuscates not only the header but the entire stream. This means that it’s very hard for your ISP to detect that the traffic you are generating comes from BitTorrent. [SOURCE: TorrentFreak]
