Smart YouTube
Aug 2nd
I’ve been testing two different plugins for WordPress that allow me to embed YouTube videos easier and have made my decision. I’m going with Smart YouTube as he recently included iPod Touch/iPhone support. Before Apple released the 2.0 software update, YouTube videos would just show as a blue block. After the 2.0 update, YouTube videos are represented like so on the iPod Touch/iPhone:

The Smart YouTube plugin author, Vladimir Prelovac, included the iPod Touch/iPhone support after I left him a comment & emailing him asking if it were possible with his plugin. He was able to edit his plugin to allow this and it was really appreciated by myself. Another nice feature of the plugin is you can embed the high quality version of a video from YouTube. If you are running a WordPress blog and post a lot of YouTube videos, Smart YouTube is the way to go.
Gravatar
Jul 23rd
A gravatar, or globally recognized avatar, is quite simply an avatar image that follows you from weblog to weblog appearing beside your name when you comment on gravatar enabled sites. I just enabled gravatars on my site. So, if you are registered with Gravatar and leave a comment, you should start seeing your image. If you aren’t, it will just be blank to the left of your comment.
WordPress App Live!
Jul 22nd
You can now download the WordPress App from iTunes (link launches iTunes). Configuring the App was a breeze and gives WordPress bloggers the power to blog from anywhere.
WordPress App Update
Jul 21st
Here’s the latest regarding the native iPhone/iPod Touch WordPress App.
Just a quick update that we’ve successfully uploaded the app to the iTunes Store, and the status message “In Review” indicates that the Apple team is conducting their testing procedures. We have not been provided with an ETA – so it could get approved at any time.

Extended Live Archives
Jul 15th
After upgrading to WordPress 2.6 from 2.5.1, when trying to view the admin/options page for the Extended Live Archives plugin I received a few errors. However, the plugin when accessed from my site, http://www.theglitch.ws/archives, is still working. I actually found the issue and had to edit one file. You can download the fixed file here. Just unzip the file and upload it to the following location;
/wp-content/plugins/af-extended-live-archive/
You will be replacing the af-extended-live-archive.php file with what’s within the zip file. Please leave me a comment if you did this & it fixed your issue.
UPDATE: 12/28/2008 – You can download the plugin here with all the patches already applied. I’m currently using this with WordPress 2.7.
iGlitch
May 30th
Anyone owning an iPod Touch (myself) or an iPhone will now load a special version of The Glitch. I’ve installed a very nice WordPress plugin called WPtouch. It makes viewing my site a lot better on those two devices. Anyone with an iPod Touch/iPhone, please leave me a comment letting me know what you think.
WordPress 2.5 RC1
Mar 18th
I upgraded WordPress today to version 2.5 RC1 and I’m quite impressed. My favorite change thus far is the ability to upload multiple files at once. After the images are uploaded, you can choose to insert a gallery within a single entry and users can leave comments on the individual images or the entire post. The admin panel was completely overhauled & with any change, will take a little time to get used to. You can take a sneak peek at 2.5 here.
Mobile Admin v1.1.1
Sep 29th
Downloaded and installed a great WordPress plug-in called Mobile Admin (v1.1.1). I am using the plug-in right now to make this entry on my iPod Touch and it works great. I’ll add a screenshot and a link to this wonderful plug-in later. Micah: There’s a plug-in for Movable Type as well that works with the iPhone/iPod Touch.

WordPress 2.3
Sep 22nd
Do you use WordPress? If so, you may want to read this article before upgrading to version 2.3 (releasing this Monday). I upgraded my site yesterday to 2.3 RC 1 and the only problem I had was with my Archives section. I use the Extended Live Archives plug-in and was able to fix it by uploading updated files for the plug-in, which I found here. I don’t use tagging, so I doubt I will change my theme to support them.
UPDATE: 3:20PM – I did change my theme to support tagging, but I am still not sure if I will use them. Does anyone use tags? If so, what is the main advantage of using them?
UPDATE: 5:21PM – I just installed a plug-in called Advanced Tag Entry. It adds a new section to the post editing screen that lets you do the following:
- Add a tag to your post from a drop-down list of existing tags you have already defined on other posts (so you can make sure you are consistent).
- Remove a tag from your post from a drop-down list of the tags you have already added to your post.
- Create a new tag, by defining the tag name and tag slug.
- Edit existing tag names and/or tag slugs.
- Delete tags that are not actually being used, from the WordPress database.
The Glitch 2.0
Mar 23rd
Well, The Glitch is back & on a new server. As you can see, I am no longer using MovableType & that I have switched to WordPress. I will be changing the layout in the next few days, so things might not look right.
